The CRC Birmingham Roller

The CRC Birmingham Roller is a roller pigeon breed that was started by Joe P.and Walt F. from Oakland Ca.  The club members bred to a strict standard, which was perfected for color and spin.  The main charactaristic of a CRC Birmingham Roller is it's compact and almost horizontal carried figure smooth hard feathering, beautiful formed head and a brilliant eye.

The bodies of the CRC birmingham roller are short and compact without appearing plump. The wings are strong with hard flights.  These birds were breed for competition flying, and deep roll  as well as their looks.

The club disbanded in the late 80's but the tradition of the breed lives on. Some of the members, such as myself and my wife and others keep the tradition of the CRC birmingham roller living on today in our birds.  When a beautiful bird is flying high up in the air and does a dive flipping 50+ feet  the colors are amazing,  There is nothing better to watch and be proud of.

****My Start****

First Beginnings.....My start.
I was first introduced to the hobby in 1971. My first pair of birds came from a friend who lived nearby in Newark CA.  They were a pair of racing homers. Soon afterwards I was introduced to the Birmingham Rollers that he bought from a friend of his.....Once I saw the birds up in the air I was hooked.marty.jpgThere was quite a few of us in the area that raised rollers with lots of different colors.....although my parents were not really happy with my idea of A hobby, but it kept me out of trouble. Over the years I got married, raised two girls, and had many of the trials and tribulations of life.  I got out of the sport to raise my family but when the girls were older I wanted to get back in to the hobby...I missed my rollers.
I went to a feed store in San Leandro CA that sold roller pigeons.  I met a wonderful man by the name of Larry Taylor who after we got talking decided to take me under his wing. He brought me over to his home and showed me some of the most beautiful birds that I had ever seen.  He introduced me to the CRC roller club and we became members.  He helped me with my lofts and over the years we became great friends.  I stayed a member until the club disbanded in the late 80's. We showed and bred the pigeons with the pride they deserved. My dear friend Larry is no longer with us but I am sure that he would be proud of some of my birds that I have bred from the amazing ones he had that he passed on to me.....This site is dedicated to him and all of those who have bred rollers in the past and are no longer here with us.....
